Our History
In 1959 Raymond Shepherd founded our church in Franklin, Massachusetts. The congregation moved to the former Swedish Covenant Church in Milford in 1963. Dale Lewis and Keith McElfresh followed as Pastors until Phil & Cheri McCutchen came to pastor in January of 1988.
While the church had grown under the previous leadership the congregation had dwindled to 7 people in 1988. God began to graciously bless and soon the congregation moved to larger rented facilities in Upton, MA. In 1992 Bethany Community Church built a new facility at its present Location in Mendon, MA.
In 1993 Bethany Christian Academy was established as a K-6 grade school. Later BCA was extended to the 12th grade as well.
We have gone from a 5,600 square foot facility to the 42,000 square foot worship center, education, gym and office complex it is today. More importantly we are focused on using what God has given us to serve the needs of people. We are humbled by the following compliment and pray that it will be increasingly true;
“My church has so many programs to help greater Milford and the world – we don’t just talk about serving God – we do it”
